Farmstay Program

GLC offers a full-support farmstay program that provide participants with an opportunity to enjoy the warmth of living with a Canadian family, while experiencing day-to-day farming life. Outgoing and active participants can choose from a variety of farming lifestyles, including ranching, dairy farming, fruit and vegetable gardening, food processing, artisan craft sales and more.

Farm-based programs may involve such activities as feeding animals, planting and harvesting crops, light construction, cooking or making crafts.  There are plenty of opportunities to practise English, as well as to learn about Canadian culture, organic farming and gardening, as well as sustainability and food security.

As most farms are located some distance from the nearest city, participants should be aware that they are trading easy access to shopping and nightlife for a rural adventure in the Canadian countryside. Facilities and urban amenities will be minimal, but your days will be rich with the chances to meet new people, practice English and learn new skills.

The GLC Farmstay Package includes:
  • Airport transfer on arrival day
  • 2 nights’ hostel accommodation, plus breakfast each day
  • 10 hrs free internet service at select hostels near your arrival city
  •  Mail reception / forwarding service
  • GLC arrival orientation (1 day)
  • Transportation from arrival city to farm (one-way only, up to $75 value)
  • 24-hour emergency support for duration of farmstay
